Please see below the excerpt from the technical instructions It will recover with regular use but the mini pump is always needed to top the mat up. This is because the foam will be heavily compressed as the mat has been in storage. On the first use the technical instruction do advise that you need to use the mini pump to fill the mat the rest of the way after it has been out for 24 hours. The Mega mat is not a fully self-inflating mat, the mat will self-inflate most of the way but then you will need top it up with the mini pump provided. I've had some advice for the UK distributor of the mats who seem to be saying what i'm experiencing is fairly normal: Yes I definitely have the right valve - i did question myself more than once! You'll soon see (within seconds) if all is ok, but I fear you've cocked up somewhere, as, as you say, what are the chances of having two faulty SIMs side by side? I suppose, if you are convinced you have it right, you can try the pump (and/or blowing in it). Of course, if the deflation valve isn't closed properly, then air will be going in, but coming straight out again, in theory. The inflation valve is the one with the additional tab thing hanging from it (that helps to identify which valve is which, if you adjust in the night). and are you sure the deflation valve is closed? Are you sure you have the correct valve open?. I suppose then, that I have to ask you an embarrassing question. We store ours inflated, with the valve left open, and it's usually stored at a firmer inflation than what we actually have it to sleep on when camping! In fact, you should have noticed a difference well within the hour, and for what you want now (effectively storing inflated, at home), you certainly won't need the pump. The inflate valve is equipped with a one-way flapper, allowing air to easily be purged during the night and with just the touch of a fingertip if you find the mat is too firm.Assuming (albeit with confidence) that the Megamat is the same workings as my comfort SIM 10, then yes, in a warm house, over 48 hours, it should be sitting at 9.9cm's deep by now! Inflate and deflate valves are large, high flow-rate FlatValves. An EXPED Mini Pump is included to top-off the inflation and achieve the preferred firmness. When the inflate valve is opened, the foam expands and draws air into the mat. To enhance the cradling effect, the mat’s surface features a brushed, stretch tricot nylon that relieves pressure points (hips and shoulders) while evenly supporting the body across all surfaces, head to foot. Horizontal air channels in the foam help reduce weight and packed volume without sacrificing comfort. MegaMat 10 has at its core 10 cm (4”) of just-the-right density, Oeko-Tex 100 certified, open-cell polyurethane foam for support and warmth. These details work in concert toward one goal: a body-cradling, luxurious sleep experience while out-and-about in the wide world. We have never wavered from our commitment to the highest quality materials, workmanship, and design, beginning with the tiniest details. MegaMat is our original, most comfortable, best-reviewed sleeping mat, making truly luxurious sleep a reality for thousands of car campers and overland enthusiasts everywhere since its introduction in 2011.
